Palestinians deserve basic human rights

I find the Aug. 1 letter concerning the “double standard” against Israel to be a misrepresentation of facts. Defending itself? How many of those primitive rockets actually penetrated the Iron Dome over Israel? What are the civilian casualties in Israel? How many hospitals, schools, homes and ambulances have been bombed and destroyed in Israel? Imagine if in America, Cuba came to our land, kicked us out and bulldozed our homes and took away basic human rights. If that were done to me and my family, I’d shoot rockets at you, too.

Seventy-five percent of those killed in Palestine are women and children. Are these the “misguided” ones letter writer Zvi Meiksin speaks of? He says they give warnings; how compassionate of them. Where are these people supposed to go when surrounded by walls and gates?

I also would say not to put all our dear Jewish brothers and sisters into the same category as the Zionist — to do so is a disgrace to them. This is an offensive move by Israel; the pictures and videos speak for themselves — including the images of Israelis using Palestinians as human shields.

Palestine has no army, no planes, no ships and no Iron Dome or bomb shelters. This is a David and Goliath war and hopefully the oppressed will triumph. As a Muslim, I don’t support Hamas and I can assure you this is not a religious thing, for our Christian brothers and sisters are suffering in Palestine, too. It is a human rights thing.
