Israel warns civilians before acting to stop Hamas missiles

Rob Rogers’ July 22 cartoon conveys the false message that Israel’s bombing in Gaza is a “heinous and cowardly” act and that Israel cares nothing about innocent civilians killed when Hamas uses innocent human shields. This is a grotesque portrayal of the facts.

Israel has been fighting in self-defense against Hamas, which started this war by firing literally thousands of missiles deliberately at Israel’s innocent civilians. Hamas did not stop despite repeated calls for a cease-fire, which Israel accepted but Hamas did not. Hamas has been shooting from schools, hospitals and playgrounds. To protect its own people, Israel has had no choice but to fire back.

Before attacking any site, Israel repeatedly has warned Gazan citizens to evacuate so as to avoid civilian casualties. Contrary to Hamas, Israel has never deliberately attacked civilians. At great risk to its own troops, Israel has even announced when and where its troops would be advancing so that innocent civilians would be spared. What country has ever taken these acts in time of war?

Perhaps Mr. Rogers has some other way to stop the Hamas missiles. Or perhaps he just wishes to continue as a Hamas propagandist.
