Our nation must face the truth about the Iraq War

The Bush-Cheney administration claim a decade ago of “mission accomplished” in Iraq must be understood as calculated deception and not a mistake. Otherwise the truth of what and why we did invade will never be known — and that leaves us open to more lying.

The Bush administration led and lied the United States into an aggressive war, the kind of war held to be a crime against peace at Nuremberg. The truth about Iraq was widely available. Millions of us protested the war. We were maligned for opposing the president and the troops.

Now it is time for President Barack Obama to tell us that it was a false scenario that caused us to go to war. Journalists and media commentators must stop fanning the flames for military action and intervention into Iraq’s current violence. We must hold our own leaders accountable (Bush-Cheney) and confront the truth about the Iraq War.
