Concerning the June 25 article “Pope: Mobsters Excommunicated”: I am a woman who does not belong to an organization of murderers or drug and sex traffickers, but I, too, have been excommunicated.

My crime? I am a woman ordained in apostolic succession in the Roman Catholic Church. It is uncomfortable to belong to a list of the excommunicated, those who harm others, who take away the life of others, when my life is spent in caring for others and bringing life to others through priestly service.

By answering God’s call to serve the church as an ordained person, I suffer the consequences. However, all women suffer the consequences of sexism.

The church must stop discriminating against women and blaming God for it.

There will be no justice for women on Monday morning until there is justice for women on Sunday morning.
