The May 18 Forum article “Mitigate the Methane” reads like a release from the PR group of “Chicken Little.”
It’s not as if methane leakage creates a problem, but it creates more of an industrial safety one than an environmental one. What company handling natural gas (methane, propane and higher gases) would not be aware of and correcting such leakage?
Nowhere do the authors address the vast production of methane naturally, throughout the world, from decomposition of vegetation and other organic sources. This cannot be measured or controlled, but it never stops — 24/7.
It is suggested that these groups of environmentalists address this problem outside of their tunnel vision as a boon to society not a detriment. Methane leakage is minuscule when compared to natural production.
