Anthem awfulness

This is the time of year for patriotic holidays — Memorial Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July — plus numerous baseball games, the Indianapolis 500, the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont. All begin with the singing of our national anthem, usually by some wannabe vocalist.

The most recent example is of LeAnn Rimes at the Indianapolis 500. Her warbling, inaccurate pronunciation of words and failure to sing the notes correctly made a travesty of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Our national anthem deserves to be sung correctly and not used as a self-promotion opportunity by some disrespectful vocalist.

Where is Kate Smith when we need her?
