Silly slogans

Gail Collins’ column “My State Is Prettier Than Your State: States Are Trying to Out-Motto One Other” (May 18) reminded me of a slogan I sent five years ago when there was a contest to select a new one for Pennsylvania. My entry was “Gateway to the Best.” I still think my slogan was the best.

The quality of most states’ slogans is childish, which is captured by the headline of the column.

If states had a good one like New York’s, they would not have to keep changing their slogans.
