The Nigerian girls

Many things are being written about the kidnappings in Nigeria and speculation about what to do to save the girls. Why is the Nigerian government so reluctant to do anything about it? Here’s one more thought to add to what is being said.

Boko Haram is a Muslim group and the majority of the Nigerian army are Muslims, many from the northern part of the country. For ethnic and also religious reasons the army will not attack and fight Boko Haram.

If Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan tries to force the military to find the girls and fight the terrorists, the army could possibly revolt and overthrow the government. So the last state would be worse than the first.

Our State Department and government have to be very cautious in this matter. They have made many mistakes in international dealings in the past years. Let’s hope they proceed with care in this present crisis.
