Barbara L. Valaw took to the Post-Gazette to say Rep. Harry Readshaw has not created any jobs in Carrick (“Change in the 36th,” May 12 letters), and I feel I must respond. I would like to ask: Ms. Valaw, where have you been? As a licensed funeral director and supervisor of the Readshaw Funeral Home Inc., which is located in Carrick, I know Harry has created many jobs over the past 20 years at the funeral home. When he first took it over, the business was nearing collapse; he was able to turn it around and build his family’s business back up. So to say he has not created any jobs in Carrick is a lie. There have been licensed funeral directors, apprentices and support staff who have been hired at the funeral home throughout the years.
I guess Ms. Valaw also forgot about six years ago when PNC Bank was going to close the Carrick branch, which is located in the Carrick Shopping Center. At that time Harry met with the PNC executives to keep the branch open. As anyone can see, it is still there and going strong. Thanks to Harry, the jobs at that branch were kept, and many other jobs in the Carrick community were saved because of PNC Bank staying in Carrick.
Carrick is a different area than it was when I grew up. Bringing new businesses into Carrick has been a very difficult challenge, but Harry has worked to do it. Look at the total record of what Harry has done for the Carrick community.
I would like to say, Harry, you have my vote!
