Gory displays

There is no right more precious than free speech. On Sunday, however, the so-called right-to-life protesters ruined Market Square with their huge display of grotesque posters depicting blood and gore. How can such a group take over a public park? Isn’t Market Square a residential oasis for all, especially we who live Downtown?

If this had been photos of nudity or animal cruelty it would be equally horrible. If any fringe group can get a permit to take over a public space for propaganda purposes, it’s time to discuss the permit guidelines.

I am sure all the restaurant owners on the square were calling the mayor’s office within 10 minutes — as well they should.
