UPMC, which is it?

Wait a minute! Last fall UPMC — regarding a lawsuit by the city challenging UPMC’s tax-exempt status — said it didn’t have any employees. It was emphatic! “We don’t have employees,” said one of its attorneys. Now, as quoted in the April 18 Post-Gazette (“UPMC Breach Affects 27,000 Workers”), a UPMC spokeswoman says: “As of today, 788 employees have been the victims of tax fraud … we continue to urge our employees to register with LifeLock as an important step to deter any additional activity.”

My, my, UPMC, what is the truth? You can’t have it both ways. Do you or do you not have employees? Just another conundrum concerning this giant “charitable” institution.
