Biking progress

I’m excited by Mayor Bill Peduto’s support for dedicated cycling infrastructure developments reported in the story “Peduto: Pittsburgh to Have a Dedicated Downtown Bike Lane by September” (April 1). Since moving to Pittsburgh in 2000, my family and I have seen great developments in forward-thinking public policy — from landing the Pro Bike/Pro Walk/Pro Place conference, actively pursuing and obtaining funding from the PeopleForBikes Green Lane Project and developing bike share.

The vision of moving toward implementing a complete streets model (streets that are designed for everyone — motorists, public transit, bicycles and pedestrians) for Downtown Pittsburgh, which ultimately increases the desirability and livability of the city as a place people want to be, is an admirable goal that our family supports.
