In response to C. Colpo’s Dec. 27 letter (“The Bible Also Backs Up GOP Attempts to Limit the Welfare State”): Yet again a Republican just throws out misinformation without any substantiation and expects the masses to swallow it. Anyone can pick out little bits of the Bible and take them completely out of context to “prove” their point, but that is a very long argument for another day.
What really galls me is his comment that “Pope Francis is a man who has lived his entire life off of donations.” The facts are our pope was at one point a janitor, a nightclub bouncer, a chemical technician and a teacher of literature. Priests, bishops, cardinals and popes work — usually tirelessly and selflessly 24/7, weekends and holidays.
So, please, try fact-checking. It’s very easy. Then spend a day or two with a priest. And, finally, to quote the Bible, “Judge not lest ye be judged.”
