Montessori values

I read with great interest and pride Stephanie Conrad’s letter (“Montessori Peace,” Dec. 17), a correction of PG editorial cartoonist Rob Rogers’ mistaken impression of Montessori presented in the Dec. 11 “Brewed on Grant.” I regret that she did not identify herself as one of the Montessori teachers at the Campus School of Carlow University.

I hired Stephanie when I was director of the Campus School and I know her to be one of the finest Montessori teachers of 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds. She embodies the values of Maria Montessori and it is evident in her classroom. The Peace Shelf is very much a part of the daily classroom activities where the children learn about kindness and cooperation.

I hope that Mr. Rogers and others will respond to her invitation to visit an authentic Montessori classroom where they will find an established, engaging and peaceful learning environment.
