Hunting near trail

Living minutes from the Montour Trail in Jefferson Hills, my dogs and I have enjoyed walking on the trail for more than a year now. We walk there almost every day. During archery season we saw hunters everywhere standing behind trees. As if that is not bad enough, more recently there have been hunters with guns in plain sight.

I believe that the hunting safety zone regulations say they must be 25 yards away from the trail. I think that is way too close to the trail, which is supposed to be for walkers, runners and bikers! I know that the hunters are not to shoot across the trail, but I certainly don’t trust that if they had a shot at a deer they would pass it up.

I understand that the deer population needs to be thinned out; however, there are enough places to hunt where there are not walkers and dogs off leash. I really think that no-hunting signs should be properly posted there. Or maybe they should post “Walk at your own risk” during hunting season!
