Our exit from Afghanistan is long overdue

While watching the news, I was stunned by the topic “Will the Afghan army be ready if we leave?” Ready? Are you kidding me? After 12 years and way too many American lives lost and money thrown away, the question is whether they are ready?

That rationale has really worked in Iraq, huh? Things seem to be going really well there, right? Do they mean that the enemy has had better training and are better prepared? Really? And to boot, the corrupt regime in Afghanistan is demanding an apology from us before it accepts any more our precious lives and money.

It reminds me of us doing the very same thing with ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam) troops. We all know how that turned out. Having served 19 months in Vietnam has made me see things a little differently. It seems like the only ones who really want us to stay are the ones making huge profits.

It’s time to bring our troops home and leave this hellhole to its own devices. Trust me — as soon as we leave, the Taliban will cruise right in and will be well armed with the weapons that we abandoned to a regime that hasn’t deserved a drop of American blood or one cent of our treasure. Bin Laden dead, mission accomplished. End it now.
