As a taxpayer, resident and lifelong Pittsburgher I can’t tell you how important the recent passing of the transportation bill is to each and every person in this state! Whether you drive a car, use public transportation or just travel within our state, you know this was long overdue.
Our infrastructure is in dire need of repairs and upgrades. The representatives who voted for this bill have shown that they really do care about our safety.
Many of our bridges and roads were built in the 1940s and ’50s — some without any maintenance or upgrades since that time. Weather, heavy traffic and changing traffic patterns all take their toll on roadways built some 60 years ago. None of us enjoys the “inconvenience of construction traffic,” but just as we update and remodel our homes and yards we must do the same for our local and state roads.
Again, thank you, legislators, for taking the necessary steps to keep our infrastructure safe and passable.
