The gouging begins

Barbara M. Grossman’s Nov. 23 letter (“Transit Editorializing”) was a classic example of fellow citizens’ never-ending naivete when it comes to the government. Her comment that “the fact that the tax will start out on the oil companies … and that it will be gradual was not mentioned.” Gradual! Really?

The transportation bill was passed late Wednesday, Nov. 20. Gas at my local GetGo on Route 8 was at $3.29 Thursday morning, and on Friday it was $3.40. Why? Oil prices have been sliding on the world market, gas supplies are plentiful based on last week’s oil inventory report, yet an 11-cent increase immediately followed the passage of the aforementioned bill. Coincidence? I think not!

Looks as if the media got this right and Ms. Grossman got it wrong.
