Uncaring Congress

After reading Melinda Henneberger’s commentary “Restocking the Pantries: Private Charity Can’t Raise Enough to Feed the Hungry” (Nov. 15 Perspectives), I can only think that our congressmen and -women are really out of touch with the needs of the people. I can only hope that any of them (or their families or relatives) need the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to survive. Most of the people who need these services (food stamps and the food pantries) are those on disability, the elderly and children.

The article stated that one representative brought in his own donation of mac-and-cheese and applesauce. It also stated that some office workers brought in bags of food. Just shows who really cares! With the salaries of the members of Congress, they can afford more.

It is time to vote all those in Congress out of office and get others who will work for the people of this great nation.
