While India slept

People are describing how they remember Nov. 22, 1963, and what they were doing when they heard the news about President John F. Kennedy.

My memory is of Saturday morning, Nov. 23, when I read it in the newspaper while at breakfast in my dorm in India. Normally, on a weekday, we did not have time to read papers before rushing to class, but seeing that this was a Saturday, we usually took our time over breakfast.

With the time difference (Indian Standard Time is 10 and a half hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time), people were asleep in India when all this happened in Dallas. So the news came out Saturday morning over there. We did not have portable or any other kinds of radios in our dorm rooms.

The interesting thing is that Nov. 22 is a Friday this year also, just as it was 50 years ago.
