More than war

Regarding Sister Patricia McCann's Sept. 22 letter "Culture of Violence," the mentally unstable perpetuator of the violence at the Naval Yard in Washington, D.C. did not suffer from a post-traumatic stress disorder caused by service in a war defending the United States.

We are a country and culture that far transcends the singular, narrow strata of being identified as a country of "weapons and war." I believe Sister McCann epitomizes much of what is good and righteous in our culture that needs never to be minimized by the irrational act of one man or a few individuals.
