God's design for marriage

Regarding Cardinal Donald Wuerl's July 7 Forum article "What Is Marriage?": There have always been learned people who asserted that they had unique understanding of God's intent based on their observations of creation. For example:

It was once held that the Earth was flat, and that it was the center of the universe. Indeed, statements to the contrary were heretical.

The inferiority of Native American and African "savages" was once widely accepted, and the care and religious conversion of these people was deemed the duty of every right-thinking Christian.

The distribution of the races onto different continents was seen as proof of God's intent that the races be forever separate. This claim was used to justify segregation, as well as laws against interracial marriage.

And now, Cardinal Wuerl has weighed in with his assertion that heterosexuals alone can give truthful expression to God's design. He maintains that gay people, by their very nature, are incapable of giving themselves to each other for life in the faithful and loving bonds of marriage. May God bless him. And may historians relegate him to his rightful place along with others who naively claimed to fully understand the mysterious intricacies of God's design.
