Fear and inequities

Unwarranted fear causes people to behave irrationally, to the extent of stalking innocent teens and declaring that they are a "suspect." This must end. Like a disease, we must ascertain what is causing this fear and take measures to eradicate it.

Is it the accumulation of centuries of racism that triggers an ignorant indoctrination to an armed neighborhood watchman? If that isn't it, what logical reason would spur such behavior?

If we are going to live up to the billing of "the land of the free, and the home of the brave," we must take a hard look at ourselves, and at our society with the courage to have an openness to recognize the inequities that engulf us. Until that occurs, we aren't free, nor are we brave.
