A talk for everyone

Regarding "Holder Speaks Out Against 'Stand Your Ground' Laws" (July 17): U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said his father warned him about how to act carefully if he was stopped by police and that he was hoping this "father-son tradition" would not "need to be handed down": My father also had a talk with me on how to act when confronted by an officer of the law. You act on your very best behavior and show the officer the respect and authority that he deserves.

I will have the same talk with my son. I hope he will have the same talk with his son, and so on for future generations. If you want to be treated with respect, you should treat people, including police officers, with the respect that you so desire. Any father who loves his son or daughter owes it to him or her to teach that child how to act toward an authority figure.

If we all got back to "treat people how you would like to be treated" this country would be much better off.
