City's intolerance

Why does the city of Pittsburgh have the right to tell any private-sector company what benefits it must provide to its employees? The city council is moving through the legislative process a bill requiring companies with city contracts, over $250,000, to provide benefits to same-sex couples ("Bill Would Require Contractors to Provide Same-Sex Benefits," July 10). At most this sounds like bribery and at least major bullying.

The city is taking the position that if you don't come around to its way of thinking, then you will be punished. Sounds like a bully to me. Tolerance works both ways.
