Pathetic spin

I am writing in response to the article by Susanne Slavick, professor of art at Carnegie Mellon University ("Protect Campus Freedoms," June 7). Her pathetic spin on the reason why the CMU student decided to stroll nude in the CMU parade was more than I could bear.

That the young lady shaved her pubic hair in the sign of the cross and dressed up like the pope and handed out condoms has nothing to do with pedophile priests. Also her plea that the young lady not be charged with indecent exposure is absurd. If Ms. Slavick wants to get the indecent exposure laws changed that is fine and dandy. Nevertheless, we have a law against indecent exposure because as a society we do not like flashers. Most people find it disturbing.

With respect to CMU president Jared Cohon's policy and Ms. Slavick's concept of artful expression, it is also evident to most people that this only applies to the artful expression against Christians. I believe Mr. Cohon's policy would be a bit more sensitive and Ms. Slavick's voice a bit softer if the artful expression was directed at another faith -- Jewish or Muslim, for example. Maybe if there were a little more "love thy neighbor" everyone would be more sensitive to other people.
