Senator's support

Many recent letters (especially the Rev. David Herndon's "NRA Stands Small," Dec. 26) decry the lack of political effort to confront the National Rifle Association, but few have acknowledged the meaningful announcement from Sen. Robert Casey of his new support for assault weapon limits. We can forget the other guy, "one-term" Pat Toomey, who will continue to ignore thoughtful Pennsylvanians on virtually every humane issue that his owners don't like.

Your editorial pointing out that the NRA works for the gun makers ("NRA Nonsense," Dec. 26), not the hunters, target shooters and collectors who value their weapons, was an important statement that we all need to appreciate.
