Saturday Poem / Extra Burden

As I enter a room

And view the crowd

I feel alone

As I am eating at the cafe

Discussing our weekend plans

I want to join and have fun

Then I realize

Nobody is willing

To carry the extra burden

Extra Burden

Is all I am reduced to …

Because of my limitations

I want to scream

I want to be free

Free from these wheels

Free from the fear within myself

Free from the enigma of society

I wake up one morning

And decide … Today is the day

Today is the day I do this

I am going to embrace these wheels

I am going to eliminate fear

I am going to prove it

If I do not take the first step, nobody else will.
