Nation puts
its past on view
HO CHI MINH CITY -- For a country that is said to be focused on a

to see evidence of past wars.
'Quagmire'
haunts U.S. foreign policy
WASHINGTON -- Twenty-five years after the fall of Saigon and the
chaotic U.S. evacuation, memories and lessons of the U.S. experience in Vietnam remain

doesn't flow, it's a torrent

HANOI -- One of the leading figures in the
efforts to deal with the legacy of Agent Orange, the defoliant sprayed by U.S. planes
during the Vietnam War, is a genial 72-year-old medical doctor and professor who spent
much of that time dodging aerial bombardment.
From life of plenty to

HANOI -- A gray-haired grandmother who spent half
a century in military service was telling her American visitors about women and war:
"We have a saying, 'If the enemy comes to the house, the women must fight.' "

For once, outlook
is for peace, prosperity
HANOI -- As Sunday's 25th anniversary of the fall of Saigon
approached, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Douglass B. "Pete" Peterson was not
dwelling on the past, although he, of all people, might have cause. Instead, he was
