After sorting through a crowded field of candidates in the May primary, Greene County
voters will decide just three contested seats next Tuesday.
Two of the three come in the race for county commissioner, in which a
field of 11 candidates in May was narrowed to the final four, including just one newcomer.
On the Republican side, incumbent John R. Gardner is hoping Scott Blair
II can help him wrest control of the commissioners office from Democratic incumbents
Dave Coder and Farley Toothman.
Its the hottest race going in Greene, in part because four
incumbent candidates for county row offices -- all Democrats -- were not only unopposed in
May but also face no competition in November.
The winners are:
John Stets for county controller.
Robert E. Elliott for treasurer.
Thomas M. Headlee for register of wills and recorder of deeds.
Shirley Stockdale for clerk of courts.
In the race for district attorney, Glen R. Toothman knocked off
Democratic incumbent David F. Pollock in the primary and is now unopposed for the seat.
The countys only contested row office is the race for
prothonotary, in which Democrat Susan Kartley White -- a winner over the incumbent, Rich
Rosendale in the primary -- faces Republican Austin "Augie" Simms.
