The traffic pattern on the Liberty Bridge is being changed to accommodate fans leaving Consol Energy Center after tonight’s Penguins’ game.
As a result, two outbound (southbound) lanes and one inbound (northbound) lane will be open through Tuesday morning, according to PennDOT.
Construction crews have begun working on the span as part of an $80 million rehabilitation project that will last through 2018.
Traffic restrictions around the region:
East Ohio Street, North Side — Long-term single-lane restrictions in each direction on East Ohio Street between Nash Street and Chestnut Street. Crews will begin roadway reconstruction and expansion dam work, which will last through late September.
Route 28, E. Ohio Street ramp — Southbound off-ramp to East Ohio Street is closed through mid- to late-June as crews conduct ramp reconstruction work and wall repairs. Detours are posted.
▪ Also, there is a shoulder closure on southbound Route 28 in the area of East Ohio Street for wall repairs.
▪ Traffic delays also may occurred in the area of the Highland Park Bridge today and Friday.
Veterans Bridge — Single-lane restrictions weeknights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through June 9 on the bridge that carries I-579 over the Allegheny River.
Squirrel Hill Tunnels — Single-lane restrictions will occur in both directions 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through June 2 for washing operations.
McLaughlin Run Road, Bridgeville and Upper St. Clair — There will be alternating single-lane traffice on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews conduct road improvements on McLaughlin Run Road between Bower Hill Road and Washington Road (Route 19).
Streets Run Road — Single-lane alternating traffic between Brownsville Road and Flamingo Drive for waterline relocation work. Crews from Golden Triangle Construction will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays through late June.
Dickey Road, Richland — Dickey Road will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. today for repairs to Deer Creek West Branch Bridge No. 1 near Stillwater Drive. The road will be closed until mid-June. A detour will be in place utilizing Meridian Road, Gibsonia Road/Route 910 and Route 8.
Baum Boulevard bridge — The traffic pattern for the Baum Boulevard Bridge deck replacement has changed and the road closed from Melwood Avenue and Enfield Street in Bloomfield to Melwood and Gold Way. After bridge repairs are made, the boulevard from the bridge to Morewood Avenue will be closed for resurfacing. The entire project is expected to cost $12.3 million and should wrap up sometime in August.
Steubenville Pike (Route 60), Robinson and Crafton — There will be single-lane traffic restrictions on Route 60 between the intersection of Noble Avenue/East Steuben Street and Lorish Road on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Liberty Bridge — An $80 million rehabilitation project is getting underway. During the project, the deck will be replaced one lane at a time through four separate work phases over the course of about five months. The first phase begins with the far right inbound (northbound) lane closed and includes the closure of the inbound (northbound) Liberty Bridge ramp to the Boulevard of the Allies.
During each phase of construction, the traffic configuration will change three times each weekday. Three lanes of traffic will be maintained during peak travel times and two lanes will be maintained overnight. The traffic patterns will occur as follows:
▪ Two inbound (northbound) lanes and one outbound (southbound) lane will be maintained from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. each weekday.
▪ Two outbound (southbound) lanes and one inbound (northbound) lane will be maintained from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. each weekday.
▪ A single-lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each weeknight.
Liberty Bridge — A single-lane restriction will occur in both directions of the tunnel each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for maintenance and washing activities.
Greensburg Pike, North Versailles — Greensburg Pike will be closed until mid-August for road and ground stabilization work near the Save-A-Lot grocery store in the Great Valley Shopping Center. A. Merante Contracting Inc. will construct a jumbo block reinforced geo-grid wall as part of the $590,000 project. Traffic approaching the site from Turtle Creek will be detoured through the shopping center to Route 30. Access to Greensburg Pike from Route 30 will be limited to local traffic.
Noblestown Road/Route 50 — Single-lane alternating traffic will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, and possibly during weekends along Noblestown/East Main Street in Scott, Green Tree, Carnegie and Pittsburgh for road resurfacing. Crews from Lane Construction have begun work between the intersection of East Main Street and Washington Avenue in Carnegie and the intersection of Noblestown and Poplar Street in Green Tree. The project is scheduled to be completed in early August.
Red Line, Beechview — Section of the Red Line of Port Authority light-rail system that runs through Beechview is closed as part of a T reconstruction project. The Port Authority is replacing rails embedded in Broadway Avenue between Potomac and Fallowfield avenues, which will affect about 12,000 commuters who use the Red Line to get to Downtown and other locations.
The Red Line will operate as normal from Fallowfield to Downtown and the North Shore. To accommodate passengers from other parts of Beechview and the South Hills, Port Authority has offered several options.
▪ In the construction zone, a free shuttle bus will run every 12 minutes during rush hours (6-9 a.m. and 4-6:30 p.m.) and every 30 minutes during other service hours.
▪ A free rail shuttle will run from Potomac to the Blue Line at Overbrook every 12 minutes in rush hours, every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes in the evening.
▪ A temporary bus route, 42 Dormont, will run between the Mt. Lebanon station and Downtown via West Liberty Avenue during weekday rush hours.
The contractor hired for the project will work Monday through Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Interstate 70 — PennDOT has seven projects under way on the 32-mile stretch of Interstate 70 between Eighty Four in Washington County and New Stanton in Westmoreland County. The I-70 work is part of a multi-year series of projects to upgrade the highway. Traffic near the 1-70/Route 19 interchange moved to the eastbound lane with two lanes in each direction.
Golden Mile Highway/Route 286, Monroeville — Lane restrictions from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays through June 6 as needed in various locations between Route 22 and Old Frankstown Road for curb and sidewalk construction.
Federal Street, North Side — Closed from East Lacock Street to South Commons Street for bridge work.
Smithfield Street, Downtown — Northbound travel lane and parking lane closed from Fourth to Fifth avenues for the reconstruction of the Forbes Avenue and Smithfield Street intersection. The closure is expected to last through the summer.
