Port Authority will add trips to nine bus routes starting Nov. 23 to ease overcrowding, the agency announced today.
Trips will be added to 12 McKnight, 16 Brighton, 38 Green Tree, 56 Lincoln, 91 Butler Street, G3 Moon Flyer, P2 East Busway Short, P68 Braddock Hills Flyer and Y47 Curry Flyer.
Four bus routes that travel through McKees Rocks will be revised to coincide with making Chartiers Avenue a two-way street: 20 Kennedy, 21 Coraopolis, 22 McCoy and 24 West Park.
Two routes will be extended: 88 Penn will be extended along Penn Avenue with a terminus at Fifth Avenue and McPherson Boulevard; several weekday trips and all weekend trips on the Y46 Elizabeth Flyer will be extended to serve the shelter at Century III Mall.
Routing will change in Braddock for 61A North Braddock and 61B Braddock-Swissvale buses. At the borough's request both routes will end at Braddock Avenue and Sixth Street, with some changes in stop locations. On the 61A, outbound trips will use Library Street to Braddock Avenue. Stops along Sixth Street will be discontinued. Service along Library Street, Baldridge Avenue and Sixth Street will be discontinued.
The authority did not extend service to the North Baldwin neighborhood, whose residents have attended several board meetings and other public meetings to complain about a lack of service. Authority spokeswoman Heather Pharo said this round of changes focused on existing routes.
“We continue to weigh Baldwin's concerns as well as similar issues in other areas,” she said.
The changes are among quarterly service adjustments that will affect 28 bus routes. No rail schedule changes are planned. Details are available at www.portauthority.org.
