Turnpike reopened near Philadelphia after multi-vehicle pileup injures 30, 4 seriously

A chain reaction pileup of an estimated 50 to 100 vehicles this morning had closed a section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike west of Philadelphia.

Lanes in both directions reopened this afternoon, Turnpike spokeswoman Renee Colborn said.

Just hours after the turnpike lifted speed restrictions that were imposed during Thursday's snowstorm, the crashes caused closure of the eastbound side from Exit 343 at Willow Grove to Exit 351 at Bensalem. The westbound side also was closed to give emergency responders and tow trucks better access.

At least 30 people were reported injured, with four in serious condition, turnpike spokeswoman Renee Colborn said.
