The U.S. House of Representatives voted Monday to name the federal courthouse Downtown for Joseph F. Weis Jr., a federal appeals court judge who died in March.
Judge Weis retired from the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last year, at age 90, having served as a judge there for 40 years. He was also an Army veteran, enlisting after Pearl Harbor and earning a Bronze Star for Valor and a Purple Heart during his military service.
“Throughout his 91 years of life, Joseph F. Weis Jr served our country with humility, integrity and an unfailing sense of duty,” said Congressman Mike Doyle, D-Forest Hills, who introduced the legislation.
It was approved in the House on Monday by a voice vote and will now move to the U.S. Senate.
