The body of a Penn State University student was found at the HUB-Robeson Center construction site Sunday morning, Penn State spokeswoman Lisa Powers confirmed Sunday afternoon.

First-year student Jack Crean, from Boalsburg, was discovered by police between 10:36 and 11 a.m. Official cause of death is unknown, but it appears he might have fallen or jumped from a crane inside the secured site, Ms. Powers reported.

Staff members within the Office of Student Affairs have already contacted his family and roommate, she said, and the university is offering counseling to "anyone affected by Jack's death."

"It's a sorrowful start to the academic year and our hearts go out to Jack's family and friends," Ms. Powers said. "The death of any student is painful and tragic, and we are deeply impacted by this loss."

An autopsy will be performed by the Centre County coroner.
