Former U.S. Rep. Mark Critz is running for the 2014 Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.

The former congressman from Johnstown, who was ousted last year in a district newly reshaped by redistricting, confirmed his plans Wednesday.

Mr. Critz says his political supporters urged him to run for the No. 2 slot on the Democratic ticket. He says he would provide geographic balance since all six candidates for the gubernatorial nomination are from Eastern Pennsylvania.

Harrisburg city Councilman Brad Koplinski became the first Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor in February.
