■ Longwood at Oakmont, 500 Coxcomb Hill Road, Plum, is hosting a talk by forensic pathologist and former Allegheny County coroner Dr. Cyril H. ■ In recognition of February as Heart Month, the Heart Center at Excela Health is sponsoring a “Red Out” cocktail party at 6 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Megan Intermission Suite, Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg, before a concert by the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra. Attendees will be served heart-healthy hors d’oeuvres and a glass of red wine, and can meet Excela Health cardiologist Dr. Mati Friehling. Special Opportunities

■ The medical staff at Allegheny Valley Hospital is offering two $2,500 Medical Scholarship Grants to students enrolled in an approved American medical or osteopathic school. Eligible applicants must be residents of Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler or Westmoreland counties and have not received a prior AVH award. A letter must be submitted to request scholarship consideration, plus applicants are required to have a letter sent from their educational institution stating they are in good standing. Letters may be sent to: Allegheny Valley Hospital, Medical Staff Office, Medical Scholarship Grant, 1301 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights, PA 15065 or faxed to 724-226-7464. The deadline is March 3.
