Community College of Allegheny County hopes to name a new president as soon as the end of November, board of trustees chairwoman Amy Kuntz told the panel Thursday.

She said during the board's meeting that a couple dozen individuals have a applied to succeed Alex Johnson, who was appointed president of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) in Cleveland effective July 1. Michael Murphy is serving as CCAC's interim president.

Also during the board meeting, it was reported that approximately 500 veterans who attend CCAC are being impacted by the federal government shutdown, many facing suspension of their disability and educational benefits because federal offices are closed, spokeswoman Elizabeth Johnston said. She said CCAC officials intend to make effort to assist those individuals.
