As part of the district's efforts to improve security, the Pittsburgh Public Schools board Wednesday approved spending $782,802 on about 4,400 intruder lock sets for classroom and office doors at schools throughout the city.

The locks, which come with door handles, are designed to ensure that classroom doors can be locked from the inside and opened from the inside.
