The Woodland Hills school board will hold a meeting on Wednesday to allow for public comment on a plan to sell the current administrative building in Churchill and relocate to new offices on the site of the former UPMC Braddock hospital.

The board voted unanimously last week to hold the meeting to discuss the sale of the property at 2430 Greensburg Pike to Trek Development. Wednesday's meeting will be held in the Woodland Hills High School auditorium, board member Tara Reis said, and the board may or may not take a vote on the sale of the building.

To register to speak at the meeting, call 412-731-1300, ext. 0124 or email billto@whsd.net by 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The plan would demolish the Churchill building and erect at least 48 units of senior housing on the site.

During last week's meeting, board members expressed concerns about losing the property and paying rent in the long term.

"I think this property should stay with the Woodland Hills School District for future use," board member Robert Tomasic said, also citing concerns about excluding other potential buyers.

Braddock Mayor John Fetterman and council President Tina Doose told the board they strongly support the plan. Ms. Doose noted that the redevelopment on the former UPMC Braddock site will include new housing -- which means new families and new students for the district.

"As we grow Braddock, we grow the district," she said.
