Moon police have arrested a convicted felon who an officer said was drunk and unresponsive while babysitting a young child found nude in a bathtub.
Peter J. Weaver, 31, of Oak Drive in Moon is charged with one count of endangering the welfare of children, police said today.
Police said the mother of the children was using Weaver to watch her children for about two weeks.
She is separated from the children's father, police said.
The case remains under investigation by the police department, which forwarded a report to Allegheny County Office of Children, Youth and Families.
The incident occurred Thursday and came to light when a driver with the STA bus company was trying to drop off a 7-year-old girl at her house on Oak Drive.
No one would answer the door, and the driver called police when he saw a child walking around inside wearing a diaper.
Moon police Officer Angela Zane responded and found the door slightly open. She went in to check on the young girl, who was crying in the bathtub with feces on her, police said.
Weaver, according to police, was lying on a bed in his underwear.
Officer Zane had to shake him and remove the bedding before he work up, according to a news release by police Chief Leo P. McCarthy.
Weaver is on probation.
A criminal records check in Allegheny County shows guilty pleas dating back to 2002 for various crimes including drug possession, aggravated harassment by a prisoner, institutional vandalism, simple assault, reckless endangering another person, DUI, theft and criminal trespass.
