A Baldwin Borough man pleaded guilty this morning to third-degree murder in the November shooting death of his wife.

Benjamin Conway, 32, will be sentenced by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Anthony M. Mariani on July 29.

According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Conway and his wife, Kimberly, had gone out the night of Nov. 3 with his step-brother, Clifford Hockenberry, and returned to the couple's home on Meadowcrest Road about 1 a.m.

Mr. Hockenberry told police that he heard the couple arguing in the basement and then heard a loud bang. When he went down the steps, the complaint said, he saw Kimberly Conway lying in a pool of blood, and Mr. Conway said, "I killed Kim."

The man then put the gun, a .357 revolver, to his own head. Mr. Hockenberry told police he was able to disarm his step-brother and then ran out of the home to call 911.

While outside, the man said Mr. Conway came out cutting himself with a piece of glass. He was taken into custody and treated for self-inflicted wounds.
