West Mifflin -- The West Mifflin Area School District will open its annual K-12 Art Show with an opening night event from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in West Mifflin Area High School, 91 Commonwealth Ave.


Peters -- West Penn Allegheny Health System will offer eight-week workshops in tai chi starting June 17, at both the WPAHS Outpatient Center in Peters and the professional building at Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side. Cost is $75 for one class per week, or eight classes, or $130 for two classes per week or 16 classes. Discounts for WPAHS employees are available. Call 412- 362-8677.


McKeesport -- Sampson's Mills Presbyterian Church, 1665 Lincoln Way, will host a strawberry social from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 13. Tickets for the social, which includes sandwich, sides and strawberry desserts, are $8 and $4 for children under 10.

McKeesport -- LifeSpan, in cooperation with the city and the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging, will hold a picnic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Blue Top Pavilion in Renziehausen Park, off Eden Park Boulevard. Peters -- Peters Creek Presbyterian Church, 250 Brookwood Road, will hold a strawberry festival, including fried chicken, roast beef, sides and strawberry shortcake, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Whitehall -- The Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God will hold their monthly soup takeout fundraiser June 12, offering homemade wedding soup, chicken tortilla soup and borscht. Bethel Park -- The Bethel Park Lions will hold its annual fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lions Park, 5757 Irishtown Road. Fish or shrimp dinners, with coleslaw, french fries or macaroni and cheese, are $9. A children's hot dog menu is also served. Takeout is available. Proceeds will benefit Lions charities.

Bethel Park -- The Fine Arts Youth will be performing at 7 p.m. Friday in the fellowship hall of the South Hills Assembly of God, 2725 Bethel Church Road. Admission is $5.


Pleasant Hills -- The Pleasant Hills Lions Club will hold a farmers market from 3:30 to 7 p.m. every Thursday now through Oct. 17 in the parking lot of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road.


Pleasant Hills -- A Murder and Mayhem Mystery Book Club will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Pleasant Hills Public Library, 302 Old Clairton Road. This month's mystery selection is "The Bone Collector" by Jeffery Deaver. Extra copies are available at the front desk. Desserts will be served. Newcomers welcome.


Clairton -- Clairton's pool, 435 Fremont St., will be open daily from noon to 7 p.m. next Thursday through Aug. 17. Daily admission is $5, or free for children under 36 inches. Season passes are available for both residents and nonresidents for $50 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Clairton City Hall, 551 Ravensburg Blvd.

South Park -- Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park will hold a family-friendly prayer walk from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at South Park, where participants can walk at their own pace, individually or as a group in prayer. Baldwin Borough -- Suzanne Levinson, a flutist and a teacher, is presenting a flute recital from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Baldwin Community United Methodist Church, 5001 Baptist Road.

Dormont -- The Dormont Hollywood Theater, 1449 Potomac Ave., will host a sing-along of the movie "Grease" at 7 p.m. Saturday. The evening will also include costume and hand jive contests. Churchill -- Beulah Presbyterian Church, 2500 McCrady Road, will hold a rummage sale featuring items such as clothes, baby items, toys, books and luggage from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in its gymnasium at the rear of the church building.


Bethel Park -- Hamilton Presbyterian Church, 4500 Hamilton Road, will hold its usual Saturday evening service at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays during the summer to accommodate travel plans.

Pleasant Hills -- Bring dad to the Pleasant Hills Public Library, 302 Old Clairton Road, at 7 p.m. Monday for a family event of making crafts and sampling delicious doughnuts. Register: 412-655-2424 or email
