Police have arrested the third of three suspects in an early morning home-invasion robbery in Castle Shannon.
Jonathan Donald MacCowan, 35, was arrested this afternoon at a Mount Washington residence, police said.
Police had obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. MacCowan and said he used two guns during the robbery.
Justin Pordash, 20, of Bentleyville and Travis Hickly, 23, of Monongahela were charged earlier in the day with robbery and conspiracy. Mr. MacCowan is additionally charged with assault and weapons violations.
The home invasion sent one man to the hospital.
Borough police Chief Ken Truver said the robbery attempt in an apartment in the 700 block of Cooke Drive was not random, and that all the individuals involved knew each other.
"We're familiar with the victim," Chief Truver said. "The big thing for us is that our residents should not be concerned this is a random act of violence."
Castle Shannon police received the 911 call shortly after 1:10 a.m. When they arrived, the 34-year-old resident was bleeding from the head and hands.
The man told police Mr. Hickly and Mr. Pordash came by to visit after midnight, and as they were leaving, Mr. MacCowan was at the door displaying two handguns, Chief Truver said.
Mr. MacCowan forced the three men into the apartment and onto the floor, demanding money, Chief Truver said.
"It was a prearranged conspiracy to rob him," he said.
The resident told police Mr. MacCowan struck him on the head and hands with the butt of his gun. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Another resident of the apartment building called 911 and yelled to the man that police were en route, Chief Truver said. Mr. MacCowan then left without taking anything from the apartment.
Chief Truver declined to elaborate about previous encounters with the injured man or how the men knew one another. He referred further questions to county investigators.mobilehome - homepage - breaking - neigh_south
