A 3-day-old baby bitten by a dog this morning in McKeesport has died, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office said.

Howard Nicholson of McKeesport was pronounced dead at 10:55 a.m. at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, about an hour after he was attacked in a home in the 1700 block of Scott Street.

MCounty police are investigating. McKeesport police said the child's mother had placed him in a baby carrier and put it on the floor in the downstairs of the home.

She told police that she left the baby unattended for about 10 minutes while she went to the bathroom, and when she came back she saw two of her four dogs hovering over the baby carrier.

Police said she told them that one of the dogs, a husky, had blood on its muzzle.

Moving closer, she discovered the infant had massive injuries to its face and head, police said.

The husky and the second dog, a pit bull, were removed from the home, police said.
