Jack Norris, president of the Quaker Valley school board, has resigned because he is moving to Long Island, N.Y., according to the district.

The board accepted Mr. Norris' resignation at its meeting on Tuesday and plans to act within 30 days to appoint a replacement for the remainder of his term.

Mr. Norris submitted his resignation after 10 years of service to the school district. He retired as managing director of CB Richard Ellis earlier this year.

"It has been an honor and privilege to serve with people who are dedicated to the mission of education," Mr. Norris said. "I am impressed more and more that one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and our world is that of an educated citizenry."

Mr. Norris joined the school board in 2003, representing Region III, and has served as board president since 2008. During his tenure, the district renovated three of its four schools.

The district is accepting letters of interest from registered voters in Region III who would like to be considered to fill the vacancy on the school board.

Region III encompasses Aleppo, Edgeworth, Glenfield, Haysville, Glen Osborne, Sewickley Heights and Sewickley Hills.

Letters of interest must be received by Oct. 15.

The board plans to fill the seat during its legislative meeting on Oct. 22.

The appointment will be effective until December 2015.

The position will be on the ballot in the May 2015 primary.

Letters and resumes, along with other relevant background information, should be sent to: John Sheline, board secretary, Quaker Valley School District, 100 Leetsdale Industrial Drive, Leetsdale, PA 15056.
