McKnight Road construction to start tomorrow

Construction on 4.6 miles of McKnight Road in McCandless and Ross is set to begin tomorrow, PennDOT announced.

The work had been set to begin tonight but has been moved back.

The $8.8 million project includes milling and resurfacing, concrete pavement patching, drainage, guide rail, concrete barrier, curb and sidewalk improvements, curb ramp installation, signing and pavement markings and signal upgrades between Nelson Run Road and Perrymont Road. Rehabilitation of the bridge that carries McKnight Road over Babcock Boulevard will include deck resurfacing, pedestrian railing repairs, concrete repairs and other improvements.

Lane closures and other restrictions will occur during the first phase, which includes bridge preservation, improvements on Peebles Road at the McKnight Road interchange, and work on McKnight Road.

The following will begin tomorrow: single-lane traffic on McKnight Road at the bridge over Babcock Boulevard from 8 p.m. continuously through early October; nightly single-lane closures on McKnight Road from Babcock Boulevard to Perrymont Road, starting at 8 p.m. northbound and 9 p.m. southbound Mondays through Fridays with work concluding by 6 a.m. weekdays and Saturdays and 8 a.m. Sundays. There will be single-lane closures on Babcock Boulevard in the area of McKnight Road from 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays to 6 a.m. the following day.

Overall work will conclude in fall. The prime contractor is Lindy Paving Inc. of New Castle.
