A West View man, apparently distraught over losing his house, was taken into custody after threatening suicide in the driveway of his North Park Road residence.
West View Police Lt. Randall Freedman said the man was the owner of the home, which tax records list as 64-year-old Ronald Boff.
Officers received a call shortly before noon that Mr. Boff was sitting in a lawn chair in his driveway with a rifle under his chin. They arrived soon after and were able to calm him down after about 20 minutes. He was transported to Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic for evaluation, Lt. Freedman said.
Court records indicate Mr. Boff struggled to pay his taxes and a $20,000 mortgage taken out with Pennsylvania Citizen Bank. In September, he faced foreclosure and his house was sold to Greenbriar Investments by sheriff's auction. The deed was transferred on Dec. 31 of last year.
Neighbors said he had lived there alone after the death of his ex-wife Judith three years ago.
