A Windgap man told officers to shoot him before they arrested him on charges that he stabbed his girlfriend, police said.

Dwayne Craig, 56, faces charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing at his Mayfair Street home early Sunday morning.

Police from the city's Zone 6 station in the West End were called to Mr. Craig's home shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday, when officers found his girlfriend on the front porch with stab wounds in her chest and armpit.

She told police the couple talked about drinking and that after she got some scotch and sat down on the couch, Mr. Craig walked in and complained that the TV was too loud. She then walked into the dining room, where Mr. Craig followed her and stabbed her with a pair of scissors, screaming, "I'll kill you," before she blacked out, according to a criminal complaint.

Police wrote that they found broken scissors and two bloody towels in the home.

Officers wrote that Mr. Craig told them to "go ahead and shoot me" before they arrested him.

Mr. Craig faces a July 18 preliminary hearing.
