A nonprofit group has given the city of Pittsburgh a $100,000 grant for green initiatives.
Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced the grant, from New York-based Cities of Service, today.
Some of the money will be used to coat the roofs of city-owned buildings, Downtown, with white reflective paint. The paint is intended to keep the buildings cooler and save the city money.
The balance of the grant will be used for Edible Gardens, a program to grow and supply fresh produce to city residents.
